2Standard 2 Skill and Fitness Based Competence
- Physical education teacher candidates are
physically educated individuals with the
knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate
competent movement performance and health
enhancing fitness as delineated in the NASPE K
12 Standards.
3Implemented in Fall 2008 Catalog
- After 30 hours, all teacher candidates must meet
the following requirements - 1. A C or better in PHED 112 and EDUC 110.
- 2. Take the PRAXIS I examination. A passing score
will not be required on PRAXIS I until the
teacher candidate - applies for formal admission into the College of
Education. - 3. Achieve and Maintain the healthy zones on all
components of health related fitness as measured
by Fitnessgram. - 4. Demonstrate competency in selected invasion
and net games as measured by a B- or better in
PHED 234. - 5. Demonstrate the six fundamental movement
skills at the proficiency level as measured by
the South Carolina Assessment criteria. - 6. Complete an application for Continuation in
the Teacher Certification program. - Before enrolling in EDUC 475 and 490, teacher
candidates must - 1. Achieve a C or better in PHED 348 and 391
- 2. Pass Praxis II (both content and video
portion). - In addition to the above requirements, all
requirements must be met for initial admission to
the Richard W. Riley - College of Education. Teacher candidates must
have successfully completed BIOL 307 before
admission to Teacher - Education will be granted.
- Accommodations will be made for teacher
candidates with documented physical disabilities.
