What Else Can I See Do?

Accessing the Map
  • Pick an agency from the list and youre taken
right to a predetermined area for that agency.
  • Additionally, the calendar is adjusted to the
last day of imported crime for that agency.

  • Use Googles address searching capability to zoom
    directly to an address.
  • Perhaps you want to go right to your childs
school address or the address of the property you
    are looking to purchase.
  • You can do that quickly, from here

Using the Map
  • Drag Zoom
  • The DragZoom tool allows you to draw a rectangle
on the map and zoom in to the area inside that
    rectangle.
  • Clustering
  • Clustering is the process of abstracting several
points that intersect one another visually, into
    a single point.
  • Clicking a cluster will zoom the map to the
center of the cluster and reveal the points.

9
Using the Map
  • Two different symbol sizes
  • For your convenience weve provided two different
    symbol sets for viewing crime.
  • If you have a large screen resolution or a
limited screen size, you can swap easily between
    large and miniature icons.
  • Easily turn on or off 15 different crime types
  • To focus your query or search for a particular
crime that you might have seen you can turn on
or off the crime types that are displayed on the
    map.
  • Please note that some crime types may be
    excluded for confidentiality reasons.

10
Crime TypeSymbols
  • Here is list of each symbol and it's definition.
  • Note that it is common for two agencies to have a
similar definition for the same Crime Type.
  • In order to remain consistent for all the data,
we map our Crime Types as to the following
    symbols
  • Please Note Sex crimes and domestic violence
have been excluded due to confidentiality issues.

11
Using the Map
  • Easily view your date range on the date tab
  • To search for crime from last week, or even last
month you can adjust the visible date range by
clicking the date tab and choosing different
    dates on the calendar.
  • Find crime around a point of interest
  • To focus your search for crime around a
particular location, you must do two things.
  • Search for an address
  • Focus your search around that address

  • You may recognize a crime on the map and want to
know how far away it is from a certain location.

    crimes
