Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882 1945)
Born on January 30, 1882 at Hyde Park, New York,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was Americas
thirty-second President. Roosevelt was elected
President in November, 1932, and re-elected in
1936. As a response to WWII, Roosevelt devoted
much thought to the planning of a United Nations,
in which, he hoped, international difficulties
could be settled. On April 12, 1945, in Warm
Springs, Georgia, he died of a cerebral
hemorrhage.

Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965)
Son of Randolph Churchill, a Conservative
politician, Winston Leonard Spencer was born on
November 30, 1874, in Woodstock, Great Britain.
On May 10, 1940, Churchill was appointed Prime
Minister by George VI. Churchill developed a
strong relationship with Franklin D. Roosevelt,
and this led to the sharing and trading of war
supplies. Retired from politics in 1955, and
after several strokes, Churchill died on January
24, 1965.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Quotes
Italy invades France

held the dagger has struck it into the back of
    its neighbor."
  • President Franklin D. Roosevelt (June 10, 1940)
  • This quote is President Roosevelts response to
the events in which Italy, led by the fascist

Women in the War
"They have given their sons to the military
services. They have stoked the furnaces and
hurried the factory wheels. They have made the
planes and welded the tanks. Riveted the ships
and rolled the shells." - President Franklin D.
Roosevelt Roosevelts address to women, and the
appreciation for their contributions to the
success of the war.
6
Pearl Harbor
"Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will
live in infamy - the United States of America was
suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and
air forces of the Empire of Japan...As
Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have
directed that all measures be taken for our
defense...With confidence in our armed forces -
with the unbounded determination of our people -
we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us
God."President F.D. Roosevelt (December 8,
1941) Roosevelt addressing the nation on the
surprise attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor.
7
Germany and Russia

development of the past year has been the
crushing offensive of the Great Armies of Russia

Winston Churchill Quotes
Churchills War Policy
"We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous
kind. You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to
wage war by land, sea and air--war with all our
might and with all the strength God has given
us--and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny
never surpassed in the dark and lamentable
catalogue of human crime. That is our policy." -
Prime Minister Winston Churchill (1940) Churchill
address to the British nation, demonstrating his
stand and his beliefs on the war.
9
Benito Mussolini
"One man and one man alone has ranged the Italian
people in deadly struggle against the British
Empire and has deprived Italy of the sympathy and
intimacy of the United States of America...One
man has arrayed the trustees and inheritors of
ancient Rome upon the side of the ferocious pagan
barbarians...There lies the tragedy of Italian
history and there stands the criminal who has
wrought the deed of folly and of shame." - Prime
Minister Winston Churchill (1940) Churchills
message, broadcast directly to the Italians,
showing his concern about Benito Mussolini.
10
The British Empire and The French Republic
We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to
the end. We shall fight in France and on the seas
and oceans we shall fight with growing
confidence and growing strength in the air. We
shall defend our island whatever the cost may be
we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in
fields, in streets and on the hills. We shall
never surrender and even if, which I do not for
the moment believe, this island or a large part
of it were subjugated and starving, then our
empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the
British Fleet, will carry on the struggle until
in God's good time the New World with all its
power and might, sets forth to the liberation and
rescue of the Old. Prime Minister Winston
Churchill (June 4, 1940) Speech post to the fall
of France. Churchill evoked his support to the
French forces. An attempt to protect their soil
at all costs.

Roosevelt Churchill X Hitler Mussolini
"To have the United States at our side was to me
the greatest joy. Now at this very moment I knew
the United States was in the war, up to the neck
and in to the death. So we had won after
all!...Hitler's fate was sealed. Mussolini's fate
was sealed. As for the Japanese, they would be
ground to powder." - Prime Minister Winston
Churchill (1941) Winston Churchill was moved by
the attack on Pearl Harbor, and informed
Roosevelt that British colonies in Southeast Asia
had been attacked also. The union of these two
leaders led to the declaration of war against
Japan, supported by Germany and Italy.
