Title: Food Chains and Food Webs

1
Food Chains and Food Webs
  • Comparing and Contrasting the Two

2
Food Chains and Webs
  • The sun is the first and foremost part of any
food chair or web. Without it, the rest of the
chain or web will fall apart.
  • Photosynthesis that takes place in producers is
the first place we see light energy transform
into energy a living organism can use to carry
    out CLPs.
  • As producers are eaten by consumers, there is
another transfer of energy. Each arrow in a food
chain or web signifies a transfer of energy.

Food Chain
  • Energy is transferred as one organism consumes
    another.
  • A food chain shows one possible path along which
energy can move through an ecosystem.
  • Arrows always point toward the organism that
    receives the energy.

Food Web
  • A food web shows how food chains in an ecosystem
    are connected to one another.
  • More than one path for energy to flow.
  • Arrows always point toward the organism that
    receives the energy.

Laws
  • The amount of matter and amount energy remains
the same and does not change in an ecosystem.
Neither matter or energy are created or
    destroyed, but only transformed.
  • These are actually laws that pertain to the
entire universe. They are known as the Law of
Conservation of Energy and the Law of
    Conservation of Matter.
