Title: FOOD CHAINS AND FOOD WEBS
1FOOD CHAINS AND FOOD WEBS In natural ecosystems
there is very little waste because almost all
materials get recycled. All organisms are food
for other organisms.
This recycling of materials through food
sources is called a Food Chain.
2A food chain determines the flow of energy
and nutrients from one organism to another
through an ecosystem.
In a food chain there are Trophic Levels. A
trophic level is a feeding or nourishment level.
35 main trophic levels
1. Producers (photosynthetic organisms) Obtain
there energy by converting the energy from the
sun. 2. Primary Consumers (herbivores) Obtain
their energy by eating the producers.
43. Secondary Consumers (carnivores) Obtain
their energy by eating the primary
consumers. 4. Tertiary Consumers (top
carnivores) Obtain their energy by eating
the secondary consumers.
55. Detrivores (decomposers) Obtain their energy
by processing dead organisms. Get energy
from all trophic levels.
6Many food chains combine together to form FOOD
WEBS.
