The final decision on Advancement up to and
including Able Cadet is made by the Unit
Commanding Officer Advancements to higher rates
requires the Commanding Officers recommendation
and is made by the Area Officer or by the
Superintendent of a National Training
Centre Assessments may be either continuous or at
the end of the syllabus
5ADVANCEMENT IN THE SEA CADET CORPS
The five grades of assessments are- VERY
GOOD - Very knowledgeable GOOD - Above average
knowledge SATISFACTORY - Average knowledge BELOW
AVERAGE - Adequate with gaps in
knowledge POOR - Weak knowledge Cadets must
achieve a satisfactory grading or above to be
promoted

EITHER QUALIFIED 2ND CLASS IN SEAMANSHIP OR
QUALIFIED 3RD CLASS IN BOTH SEAMANSHIP AND SECOND
SPECIALISATION. GAINED A FURTHER 3 POINTS IN A
SINGLE BOATING PROFFICIENCY IN ADDITION TO THE
REQUIREMENT ABOVE.

17ACTING LEADING CADETS
May be appointed where there is no cadet holding
that rate in the unit For Acting Leading Cadet
must be Able Cadet and meet all the criteria for
promotion to Leading Cadet except for age. If
the cadet joins after their 14th birthday - Is
qualified in accordance with TI 1001 a, b, d and
h - Has served at least two years - Has gained
progress points to an average of at least 10
points per year - Has a development plan for
meeting the full requirements - Recommended by
the Commanding Officer District Officer
18ACTING PETTY OFFICER CADETS
May be appointed where there is no cadet holding
that rate in the unit For Acting Petty Officer
Cadet must be Leading Cadet and meet all the
criteria for promotion to Petty Officer Cadet
except for age. If the cadet joins after their
14th birthday - Is qualified in accordance with
TI 1101 a, b, d and h - Has served at least two
years and six months - Has gained progress
points to an average of at least 15 points per
year - Has a development plan for meeting the
full requirements - Recommended by the
Commanding Officer District Officer

Note Marine Cadet 1st Class is the rate held and
