Looking for elements

• There are three types of columns called
• Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian.
• A frieze is found at the top of the building
• it can be plain or decorated with a relief
  that looks like a sculpture of people.

Supreme Court

• This is the building in Washington D.C where the
  Supreme Court is held.
• The front of the building has Corinthian
• columns which are the most detailed and
• it also has a large frieze.

Jefferson Memorial

• The Jefferson Memorial in Washington is modeled
  after the Parthenon.
• It has circular marble steps, a portico with a
  colonnade and surrounding Doric columns.
• It has a shallow dome and is open to the elements.

THE Parthenon

• This famous building is called the Parthenon. It
  is found in Athens, Greece.
• It is surrounded by Doric columns and a frieze.

Athenian Treasury

• The treasury building has Doric columns which are
  the simplest design. They were first made out of
  wood and later made out of stone.

• Elements of Greek architecture can be found in
  buildings around the world. Some of these
  original buildings were built as early as 500B.C
  and their designs are still a part of our modern
  culture.
