  • Have a clear understanding of the Invigilators
    role and the kind of tasks you may be required to
    perform
  • Feel more confident in dealing with unexpected
    circumstances

Exam Room
  • Desks must be 1.25 metres apart from the centre
    of the chairs
  • The room should have
  • no posters which may aid candidates (cover up)
  • visible clocks all showing the same time
  • copies of the ICE, seating plan and invigilator
    record warning to candidate posters inside and
    out
  • any necessary equipment - calculators

Starting the Exam
  • Candidates should be under exam conditions from
    the moment they enter the room, there should be a
    system of checking identity.
  • They should not bring any mobiles in at all.
  • The papers should be opened in the exam room.
  • No unauthorised material should be bought into
    the room and no exam papers or stationery should
    leave. Pencil cases should be see-through and
    drinks have no labels.
  • Exams have to start within 30 minutes of 9.00 for
    the morning and 1.30 in the afternoon.
  • Candidates may not leave until 1 hour after the
    start of the exam.
  • After the papers have been distributed the rubric
    should be read and the times stated using the
    wording in the ICE.

Invigilating
  • At least 130
  • Teacher or parent cannot be the sole invigilator
  • Quiet, active observation
  • Be careful about what questions you can answer
  • Ensure that no-one cheats or disrupts others
  • Should be reassuring presence
  • Sign the invigilation sheets
  • Candidates needing to leave the room should be
    supervised
  • Have a means of getting help radio, mobile,
    runner
  • Know the fire drill procedure

Finishing the Exam
  • Tell candidates that they should stop writing
  • There is no need for a 5 minute warning
  • Papers should be collected in candidate number
    order
  • They should not be left unsupervised
  • Check with EO on arrangements for bagging up
  • Extra time candidates

  • A candidate arrives with his right arm (which he
    writes with) in a pot because its broken.

  • You give out the English Literature papers but
    when the students start one girl tells you that
    the questions are about Hamlet and they have
    studied Macbeth.
