- A rate in excess of standard tuition rates
- Unique programs
- Special operating costs
- Require Board of Regents Approval and Student
Involvement

- Distance Education
- Programming provided exclusively for distance
education (50 or more DE) - Course or Program
- Price is set by institution
- Other than access for resident undergraduates,
programming should be priced on cost-recovery
basis at a minimum

- Service Based Pricing
- Applies to graduate and non-traditional for
credit programming (degrees or certificates) - Provides additional services beyond traditional
offerings (content, delivery, ancillary services) - Priced to take into account fixed and variable
costs over life cycle of program (150 of
standard tuition is the floor but hoped that
tuition would reflect market prices) - Require approval of UW System President

- Other--Contract Courses, Continuing Ed, Etc
- Contract courses more short term or targeted
than Service Based Pricing and must be priced to
cover costs.
8Which Pricing Mechanism is Appropriate?
- In General
- Design the appropriate content, delivery method,
and ancillary services that are needed to serve
the target market before deciding on pricing
mechanism - We dont want pricing driving programming!
- Some thought to pricing may help shape end
product

Standard Tuition default tuition rate upon
program approval Differential Tuition
Chancellor must present the proposal at two
administrative staff meetings, a formal request
needs to be made to UWSA, and approved by Board
of Regents Distance Education Consult campus DE
processes and UWSA has developed pricing tools.
11What is the Process I Need to Follow?
Service Based Pricing Must be submitted to UWSA,
probably just before program approval is
requested, and requires UW System President
approval Contract Courses Policies on web FAP
44, consult campus process.

- We dont want pricing driving programming!
- Approval on pricing request does not replace
program approval - Most definitions and processes are contained in
ACIS 5.4 revised and available on line. - Differential Tuition policy document will be
consolidated and made available on line.
