AIM
To investigate how the area of a parachutes
canopy effects its landing time.

MATERIALS
Plastic from shopping bags (shopping similar)
Cotton or nylon thread.
Scissors
Stopwatch
Measuring tape
Watch for timing

METHOD

• Use plastic from shopping or freezer bags to
  build a parachute, make your design simple
  because you will have to repeat it several times.
• Make a model skydiver out of plasticine or use
  weight, or perhaps you have a better idea.
• Use cotton or thread to attach the model skydiver
  to drop the parachute.
• Decide how and from what height you are going to
  drop the parachute.
• Time how long it takes your parachute to hit the
  ground.
• Repeat this measurement three times
• Change the size of your parachute (make another
  one) and repeat the experiment again. You must
  investigate at least 3 different sized paracutes.
• Draw up a results table like the one on the next
  page.
