Maintaining Interest and Enthusiasm
  • Keep training sessions varied and interesting
    with some of the following
  • Teach a new skill and finish off training by
using it in a game situation.
  • Use a soccer ball or basketball to play keepings
off in the 25 yd area as a warm up activity

3
Maintaining Interest and Enthusiasm
  • Bring along a senior player with all the skills
to show your team something new.
  • Organise a senior goal keeper, properly geared
up, for the team to have goal shooting practice
and encourage the teams interest in the goal
keeping aspect of the game .

4
Maintaining Interest and Enthusiasm
  • Provide incentives eg for a player who has just
learnt to push the ball correctly, the longest
    hit or flick etc.
  • Join in yourself, show the players that you are
    enjoying the session as well.

5
GAMESGame One Space
6
  • The aim of the game is to encourage players to
use the space at the side of the field
  • Select two teams of four
  • To score a goal a team must dribble the ball over
    the baseline under control.
  • Push pass only
  • Players may run through the OOB area, but if a
ball is passed into or through the area, the
offending team must perform a penalty eg push
    ups/ 10m sprints
  • Other normal hockey rules apply

Gaining ground or forcing back
9
  • Players on both teams have a hockey stick
  • You might want to vary the type of stroke to be
    used ie hit, push,slap.
  • Once the game starts with a bully on the centre
line the team that wins the ball pushes the ball
up the field after winning the ball
  • the defensive team tries to stop the ball as
quickly as possible then makes their attempt from
the spot the ball was stopped

10
  • The aim is to get the ball over the oppositions
goal line but neither team is able to cross the
    centre line
  • Play starts with the ball in the centre of the
    field.
  • Players should be looking for a space to put the
ball through and should not try to return it into
    the mass of the opposition

  • The other team tries to avoid this by
    intercepting the ball.
  • Players are not allowed to enter in the marked
    areas.
  • If a point is scored, play starts again with a
