1Why Should I Give to the United Way? (Some
things you may not have considered)
2Its About People In the Fraser Valley
The United Way isnt about money, its about
giving people a little help when the need it. One
in four people in the Fraser Valley have been
touched by United Way That means one in four of
your friends and neighbours have had some help
from a United Way Agency
3Deb and Robs daughter Taylor, was born with
Seckel Syndrome that means that she will never
develop normally, either physically or
mentally. The Mission Association for Community
Living gave them the help they needed. Now Deb is
volunteering, giving back some of the help she
received. Mission Association for Community
Living is a United Way Member Agency

4- Lets talk about how United Way makes investments
in the community. - The first concern is to deal with the basic needs
of life, and help people break the cycle of
poverty - United Way supports Community Food Banks, which
provide some basic support to families in need,
when they need a hand up

- At 25 years old Thelma was facing the task of
raising her children alone - Thelma began taking her children to Sardis
Doorway, but still had a problem with alcohol - Then Thelma met Elsie, a doorway worker, who
showed tolerance and patience, and helped Thelma
change her unhealthy lifestyle. - Thelma now works with children and youth at

6- And sometimes, people just need a little hand up
to become self sufficient once again - Jacqui, a fifty something woman on her own, is
out of work and out of money. - This can be one of the hardest tasks anyone can
face not just convincing someone else you can
do the job, but convincing yourself first - Jacqui took stock of herself with the help of
Abbotsford Association for Healthy Agings 55
Program - Now Jacqui can recognize her own abilities and
no longer feels alone
