Title: Housing Crisis

1
Housing Crisis Connection
  • Step 3 Housing
  • Whats the Connection?
  • Permanent housing can help prevent the spread of
    HIV/AIDS.
  • Lack of permanent housing is a major problem for
    people living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Recent studies show that the cost of medical care
for a person with HIV/AIDS far outweighs the cost
    of basic housing.
  • Housing is health care.
  • Proper design for housing.

2
Housing Crisis Connection
  • Stable and healthy lives require a supportive
    environment.
  • Housing helps stabilize lives and provides both
    psychological and medical support.
  • There is a great need for permanent housing, for
    both individuals and entire communities.
  • Permanent housing affects the prevention and
    treatment of the disease.
  • It removes individuals from the physical
environments where they are most likely to spread
    or contract the disease.
  • It increases access to proper health care,
treatment, and education about the disease.
  • It provides psychological support.
  • Housing influences a successful treatment.
  • Once treatment has been accessed and initiated,
housing helps regulate a lifestyle which is
necessary to ensure that a person continues the
prescribed ART treatment and avoids returning to
    harmful environments.

3
Housing Crisis Connection
  • By reexamining the relationship between
    buildings, infrastructure and epidemiology, we
can design solutions to combat issues of public
health which are specific and responsive to the
    needs of individual communities.
  • The ARCHIVE Institute seeks to combat the
    HIV/AIDS pandemic through architectural solutions
at community wide basis in the planning, design
and construction of the proper facilities.

Global HIV/AIDS
  • Young people are assets in the fight against
HIV/AIDS, and their voices must be heard. When
young people are able to identify the main issues
of concern to them and are empowered to develop,
implement and manage youth-owned strategies to
address those issues real change will take
    place

about AIDS and communicate with them about the
epidemic? How can we use technology to alleviate
the global problem of AIDS?        ?What are
some of the lessons we have learned from the
spread of the AIDS epidemic? What do
communities/villages affected by AIDS need most?
