Biography

• Amin Al-Husseini was born in Jerusalem in 1893
  when the region was ruled by the Ottomans.
• As a young man he was an officer with the Ottoman
  army and participated in the Armenian
  genocide(1914-1924), where about 1.5 million
  Christians are killed.
• In 1917 Al-Husseini returns to Palestine with the
  vision of a Muslim state where Christians and
  Jews would be eliminated.

Husseinis role pre-WWII

• In 1921 he was appointed the Grand Mufti of
  Jerusalem by the British. This title refers to
  the highest official of religious law in a Sunni
  Muslim country.
• He was not elected by local vote, because he had
  no formal religious training.
• He begins to apply Nazi techniques to eliminate
  anyone who speaks against a pure Arab State.

Ties to Hitler

• Al-Husseini meets with A. Eichmann, Jewish
  question.(1937)
• He got on the Nazi payroll, so he could begin a
  plan to get rid of Jews in Palestine.
• In 1941 he meets with Mussolini to further his
  cause against the Jews.
• In 1941 he also met with Hitler to discuss the
  Final Solution and lend his support. He was not
  in favor of any Jews being deported to Palestine.

The Christian Serbian Genocide

• In 1941 Al-Husseini was put in charge of the Nazi
  offensive in Bosnia.
• He recruits 100,000 Bosnian Muslims to join his
  cause to eliminate Serbian Christians.
• The Nazis did not help Al-Husseini, but he killed
  200,000 Orthodox Christian Serbs, 22,000 Jewish
  Bosnians, and 40,000 Gypsies.

Nazi Muslims

• In 1943, Al Husseini creates the Hanzar Division
  of Nazi Muslim Soldiers in Bosnia, which he calls
  the cream of Islam. 
• Al-Husseini became friends with Himmler (the head
  of the Nazi SS).
• Himmler does not object to Muslim soldiers, since
  they were supposedly promised heaven if they died
  fighting, and Himmler saw this as very practical.

Pan Arab Government

• In 1943 Al-Husseini headquarters in Berlin as the
  Prime Minister of the Pan Arab Government.
• He was planning an extermination camp in
  Palestine for the Jews that lived there.
• Al-Husseini tours Auschwitz with his friend
  Heinrich Himmler and witnesses first hand the
  execution of humans.
• With Himmler Al-Husseini established the Islamic
  Instisute, which was meant to carry Nazi ideology
  to Palestine and the Arab world.

Speech from Berlin

• Husseini made a speech from Berlin in 1944 and
  says, Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This
  pleases God, history, and religion. This saves
  your honor. God is with you.
• In 1946 Husseini is given amnesty by the British.
  He flees to Egypt. Yugoslavia request his
  extradition for crimes against humanity, but the
  Egyptians refuse to release him.

Al-Husseinis Successor

• In 1946 a young 17 year old named Yasser Arafat
  meets and begins to work for Al-Husseini.
• In 1948 when a Jewish state was declared Husseini
  said, Murder the Jews, murder them all.
• Arafat becomes the head of the PLO in 1969. The
  PLO in an organization that is trying to
  establish a Palestinian State.
• Al-Husseini died in 1974.
