  • This is the truth.
  • The whole truth.
  • And nothing but the truth
  • about the book Respect!

3
The Basic Storyline
  • The book begins when a boy called Walter Tull
    (Tully) and his
  • little brother Eddy move into an orphanage. After
    being
  • continuously bullied, Tully becomes a well known
    name in the
  • orphanage when his amazing talent of football is
    discovered.
  • Tully is seen playing by a local team, Clapton
    FC, who then
  • ask Tully to play for their team. Tully is later
    picked up by the
  • high flying team, Tottenham Hotspur. Tully is
    their star player
  • but is not respected by the fans because of his
    skin
  • colour.
  • Tully becomes the first ever black player to play
    in the
  • premiership. At first the fans do not like him
    but after a short
  • while his amazing talent with a ball at his feet
    earns the respect
  • of fans world wide. However, Tullys fame is cut
    short when he
  • volunteers to help his country in the First World
    War

What We Liked
  • One of the things that we liked and found
    effective about the book
  • was how even though it was short, and quick to
    read, there was an
  • interesting storyline which did not get boring.
  • If the book was much longer then it may have
    seemed to drag on.
  • Also because it was not too long it appeals to a
    wide range of
  • people. You dont have to be very clever or
    intelligent to read or
  • understand the book.
  • This is good because youre learning as you
read, but it feels like youre only reading a
    story.
  • We think this is the best book because it was
interesting and made good points about real life
issues and problems such as racism.

5
Why we think the writer wrote Respect
  • We feel that the writer wrote this book to
  • make the reader think about the choices in life.
  • This makes you think about the ones that are
  • right and the ones that are wrong. This puts you
  • in the position of someone who is being bullied
  • because of the colour of their skin.
  • This shows that everyone is the same and it
    doesnt
  • matter about the way you look. We think he wanted
  • people to think about Tully because he says that
  • not many people remember him.

6
The Message to the Reader
  • Everyone is
  • the same!
  • People should be allowed to do
  • what they like, even if they have
  • a different skin colour or
  • background.
