    and of VTAC with regard to equity and access.
  • To assist staff in ensuring that all students
    achieve their VCE.

Time Management
  • Organisation
  • Plan Ahead use a study planner

    3.5hrs per week night.
  • Involve yourself in co-curricular
    activities/total school program.

VCE Rules
  • ALL unacknowledged work submitted is genuinely
    your own.
  • You must acknowledge ALL resources
  • You must not receive undue assistance
  • You may not submit the same piece of work for
    assessment more than once.
  • You must not knowingly assist others to breach
    the rules
  • DONT jeopardise your VCE by breaching

ASSESSMENT
  • ASSESSMENT

Satisfactory Completion
  • This is based on the achievement of ALL learning
    outcomes in a unit.
  • An outcome can be made up of a number of
    assessment tasks.
  • It requires that
  • Work is of a reasonable standard.
  • Work can be authenticated.
  • School deadlines have been met.
  • No breach of attendance rules (school policy is
    for attendance at all classes.)
  • Student manual page 10
  • Penalties apply.

Redemption of Unsatisfactory Completion
  • Students will be given an opportunity to redeem
    an N result.
  • A satisfactory redemption will alter an N result
    to an S result.
  • It will not alter the original score or grade for
    the assessment task
  • Penalties may be imposed for a breach of the
    rules.
  • An appeal on the penalty is available.

School Assessed Coursework (SAC)
  • These are completed at school during terms 1 3.
  • Each subject has a number of assessment tasks to
    determine the mark attained by the student.
  • They are used to rank students in a subject.

Examinations
  • All subjects have examinations
  • These are externally written and marked by the
    VCAA.
  • They are held at Camberwell Grammar School
    (unless you are studying a subject outside the
    school).
  • Some subjects have a mid-year examination (June)
  • All subjects have an end of year examination
    (November)
  • See student manual pages 23 and 24 for
    examination weighting.

General Achievement Test
  • Held in June for ALL students
  • A test of knowledge and skills in writing,
    mathematics, science and technology, humanities
    and social sciences and the arts.
  • Used by the VCAA for
  • Statistical moderation of School assessed
    coursework.
  • Quality assurance check on the marking of
    external examinations.
  • Checking of school assessed tasks marking
    standards.
  • To assist in determining a Derived Exam Score

School Consideration for Disadvantage
  • Applies in instances of illness, disabilities,
    and environment factors.
  • Time extensions or special arrangements may
    apply.
  • Need to apply in writing to the VCE Coordinator.
    (prior to event)
  • Evidence is required to support all applications.

Time Extensions
  • A formal application must be made to the VCE
    Coordinator for
  • School
  • Coursework extensions. ESL students may seek time
    extensions for coursework.
  • VCAA
  • Examinations (applications must be made by end of
    February for ALL external examinations.)
  • EVIDENCE is required for all applications.

VCAADerived Examination Score
  • Available for illness or environment factors that
    occur within two weeks of an external
    examination.
  • A formal application to the VCAA is required.
  • Evidence from an external third party is required
    .

VTAC Equity and Access
  • A VTAC process to assess the needs of students
    experiencing specific personal circumstances
    which affects their performance in external
    examinations.
  • Long term learning disabilities or illness.
  • Special Yr 12 Circumstances
  • These students must be ineligible to receive a
    Derived Examination Score

Study Score
  • The Study Score is a ranking given for a Unit 3
    4 subject by the VCAA.
  • It is in the range 0 to 50
  • It is made up of two elements
  • School Assessed Coursework (SAC)
  • External Examination(s).
  • It is NOT a mark

Calculating the Study Score
  • The mark range for the School Coursework is
    adjusted to conform with the mark range for the
    examination.
  • The adjusted School Coursework mark is then added
    to the examination mark(s) to give an aggregate
    score.

How Study Scores are used
  • Study scores are sent to VTAC.
  • VTAC scale these scores to allow for the strength
    of competition in a subject. Some subjects
    scores increase, others decrease.
  • These scaled scores are used to calculate the
    ENTER

Calculation of an ENTER
  • The scaled study scores are aggregated for
  • English (or Literature, Language, ESL)
  • The next best three scores
  • 10 of a 5th score
  • 10 of a 6th score (may be a university
    enhancement study)
  • CISCO unit 3 / 4 is scored by taking 10 of the
    average of the students best four subjects. It
    then acts as a 5th or 6th score.
  • The aggregate score is then used to determine the
    ENTER

Some Important Issues
  • PRIVATE STUDY
  • This is organised at school, supervised, and
    attendance is compulsory.
  • Home Leave may only be taken from 2.05pm (end of
    p6) if no further school commitments in the day.
  • COMPUTER USE
  • Computer or Printer malfunction is not a basis
    for applications of disadvantage or extensions.
  • BACK UP regularly and store the back up in a safe
    place.

  • Class of 2006 182 students
  • All applied for tertiary study all but two
    received an offer (they are working now).
  • Close to 90 received an offer for their 3rd
    preference or higher working on this!
  • Melbourne University still the most popular
    destination institution and Commerce most popular
    course at Melbourne 38 offers!
