Key Features of Architecture

• Data stays at resource sites under local control.
  Resource site maintains standard metadata.
• MEL provides single point of access to
  distributed geospatial data.
• MEL provides access to real data, not just
  pictures.
• Interface based on web tools.
• Metadata consistent with federal guidelines.
• Data transfer through standard formats.
• Vector Product Format, GRIdded Binary format,
  Binary Universal Form for the Representation of
  meteorological data, etc. SEDRIS.
• Provides access to classified/restricted data.

Summary

• MEL provides access to data via a browser
  interface and direct access for applications such
  as the Environmental Scenario Generator.
• MEL metadata is consistent with federal
  guidelines, facilitating interoperability with
  other data repositories.
• MEL will provide a SEDRIS delivery option.
• MEL is a key pillar of the integrated natural
  environment strategy for data flow to the MS
  customer.
• There will be a classified MEL.

AND ACCESS SYSTEM.
