Parental Leave (Clause 37)effective from 20/11/03
  • Maternity leave 12 weeks
  • Paid primary care-giver leave 8 weeks
    immediately following maternity leave
  • 20 weeks paid adoption leave - where child is
    under 5 years of age
  • 2 weeks unpaid new birth/adoption leave

Parental Leave cont.
  • Time release - up to 1 day per week
    (non-cumulative) for birth mothers returning to
    work within childs first year (available during
    that period).
  • The period of leave recorded for statutory
    reporting obligations, and hours taken will be
    managed within the work area.
  • Time Release Start - TRS,
  • Time Release End TRE.

Probation (Clause 18)
  • Reasonable length having regard to the nature
    and circumstances of the appointment.
  • Length for standard appointments
  • - Academic up to 3 years initially, extendable
    to 4 years max
  • - General up to 6 months initially, extendable
    to 9 months max
  • - Special provisions apply for GRDP and fixed
    term Student Internships.

Probation Cont.
  • No probationary periods to apply for extension
    or renewal of initial fixed term appointment.
  • A probationary period will not generally be
    applied where there is a continuation of
    employment with the University, and the staff
    member has been employed for at least 12 months.

Probation Cont.
  • Changes to procedures (other than standard
    academics)
  • Initial meeting within 1 month of commencement,
    with further meetings as required.
  • Supervisors to provide written report outlining
    the outcome of probation meetings to probationer.

Probation Procedures
  • If performance standards are not met (other than
    standard academics)
  • Outline deficiencies expectations
  • Timeframe for review period
  • Advise of possible annulment.
  • At least 10 days prior to end of probationary
    period, supervisor will recommend to the delegate
    annulment or extension (within max periods).
