4From USDOT (RITA)
- "A cooperative agreement was awarded to
California Department of Transportation
(Caltrans) who within the availability of funds
provided the best value to the Government in
meeting the goals, objectives and requirements of
Safe Trip-21."
5Discussion of SAFE TRIP-21 Approach
- Ramifications on
- Our Region Research Questions Addressed
- VII California Testbed
- Broadened in visibility, extent, multi-band
capability, duration and application users - Vehicle OEM Laboratories
- Our Activities
6RSE Installations
- 30 locations (20 intersections, 10 freeway
sites) - Original goal was to do it in two months starting
in June, new starting date is June/July - Emphasis will be on expanding the existing
testbed by populating it with more RSEs - Some of existing RSEs will be retrofitted
- Locations outside the current testbed will be
considered - Used latest version of MCNU, new GPS, and new
WiFi - California / ECR was retrofitted this past
Saturday (more later)
7RSE Installations (cont.)
- Installations will be done by a subcontractor
(not Caltrans) - Sole source justification submitted
- Subcontractor has extensive experience working
for Caltrans and PATH - Subcontractor will obtain all the required
permits to work on Caltrans Right-of-Way - Subcontractor is ready to start pending
- Contract Progress
- MCNU availability Hardware (including Power
Supplies) Software issues need to be solved
before installation -
8RSE Installations (cont.)
- The recommended list of first 5 new
installations - 1. Marsh Road US 101
- 2. University US101
- 3. Matadero ECR
- 4. Cambridge ECR
- 5. Embarcadero ECR
- The above list is based on the following
Stanford Margeurite Shuttle route (as a possible
probe), location of existing RSEs, proximity to
current VII California Test Bed, and site surveys -
9California / ECR Intersection
10California / ECR Intersection
11California / ECR Intersection
- Done on 5-31-2008 by Caltrans Maintenance and
PATH - It is working
- It will be used to serve as a test RSE for the
next 30 installations with new MCNUs
12POC Testing
13VII CA SDN Network Access Point
- Server equipment delivered
- DS3 line installed
- Cisco network equipment delivered
- Securent license ordered May 13
- Notified Cisco April 24
- Received vendor (ATT) quote May 9
- Promised ship date in late May
- Checkpoint Firewall
- Original order in April
- Confusion with vendor led to original delivery
date quoted as May 12 - Vendor promised June 4 ship date
14VII Tolling Status
- RSE installed
- LTP (Lane Transaction Processor) being shipped
- Mark IV providing support for LTP
- Changes will be made to support MTC Tolling
application - Application design and development underway
15Dumbarton RSE Installation
MCNU and the NEMA enclosure Space available to
place LTP
Local Transaction Processor Not yet installed
16Dumbarton RSE
The Dumbarton RSE Installation The MCNU has
been installed for supporting the tolling
application Build number 1.73232 - Consistent
with the requirement Waiting for backhaul
connection
17Checklist for LTP-RSE
Responsibilities PATH RSE connected to
backhaul and remote access verified LTP
attached to RSE If LTP to use separate
backhaul, connection and remote access verified
This requires setting IP address on LTP
according to the user manual MARK IV
Remotely access RSE and LTP and configure them
for application usage Install current POC
application as interim means to verify operation
18OBE for Tolling Application
VII Parvus OBE bench tested A3s being
installed with the VII Parvus OBEs Update
positioning bundle to 1.7.1.1 (?)? After
installation we need to check - connectivity
with the RSE at Dumbarton - GPS alignment
verification
19Savari On Board Unit GPS Testing
Savari OBU GPS Testing GPS tests done in South
Bay, near US101 utilizing the VIICA test-bed
RSU5. Red dots indicate test vehicle trajectory
and the green dot is the RSU, overlaid on Google
Map. Fairly accurate match with the road was
verified.
