What is taxonomy?

• Taxonomy is the branch of biology that deals with
  the naming, grouping, and classification of
  organisms
• Goes from a broad classification such as Kingdom
  Animalia (animals) to a specific genus and
  species such as Homo sapiens (humans)

• What type of animals are the most numerous?

• Worms, Mollusks, Spiders, Insects, Crustaceans,
  or Vertebrates?

• In the last 50 years, scientists noticed that not
  all living things can be classified as animals or
  plants (fungus, protists, bacteria) so they added
  3 new domains
• In the 1970s, 3 domains were created due to newly
  discovered organisms Eukaryotes (humans
  included), Archaebacteria, and Eubacteria
• This means that there is a new category of
  classification
• Domain Dumb
• Kingdom King
• Phylum Phillip
• Class Came
• Order Over
• Family From
• Genus Geneva
• Species Switzerland
