- Nonproliferation is any effort
- (bilateral agreement, international treaty or
organization) - that prevents the spread of weapons of mass
destruction - (nuclear, chemical and biological)
Commercially available technologies can also play
an important role in addressing proliferation
concerns
Material protection, control, and accounting
(MPCA) is a fundamental pillar of
nonproliferation
3What is Arms Control?
Arms control is any multilateral, bilateral, or
unilateral measure taken to reduce or control a
weapons arsenal.
On May 24th, 2002, U.S. President George W. Bush
and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the
Strategic Offensive Reduction Treaty (SORT).
