5We Can Solve the Problem
- Our Solution
- What you see is what you need !!!
- Our Approach
- Manage Information Density
- Decrease Cluttering
- Retrieve Information as needed
6Manage Information Density

7Decrease Cluttering(Chainsaw Approach)
8Decrease Cluttering(Chainsaw Approach)
- First Zoom Level
- Main Road Labels
9Decrease Cluttering(Chainsaw Approach)
Second Zoom levelSecondary Roads
10Decrease Cluttering(Chainsaw Approach)
Further Zoom Secondary Roads and
Information
11Decrease Cluttering(Chainsaw Approach)
Semantic Zoom Amount of Detail shown depends on
level of zoom Eliminates need to show all data at
once Shows Information that is appropriate for
user interest
12Retrieve Information as needed
- Information on Demand
- Gazing Time Controlled
- Hardware button
- Display doesnt interrupt users browsing

14Lets watch !!!
15How did we do this
- CAVE vs. PC vs. Workbench
- D.I.V.E.R.S.E
- Head tracker vs. Eye Tracker
- Software Issue
- Color coding
- Roads and for Summaries
16Pros and Cons
- Pros
- Reduces Clutter
- Easy to get details about something (just look)
- No distortion (compared to e.g. fisheye)
- Cons
- Restaurant icons occlude part of the map
- Road labels sometimes jump around (implementation
issue) - 3D navigation with the CAVE wand can be confusing
17Future Work
- Integrating the Eye Tracker with the head tracker
- Testing with larger maps
- Additional Zoom Levels Buildings
- Mathematically defining focus and periphery areas
- Conduct experimentation to test how effective our
approach is - Indicate when a place of interest is selected
18Our Contribution to HCI
- Controlling information density relative to the
area of focus of the user - Simulate the functionality of the Human eye
- Using Head tracker to control the focus

This is the guy we have to thank. Now we know
where the idea came from !!!
