Online projects with other classes
Make sure you are ready for an online project
before plunging into one. Remember you must hold
up your end of the project for it to work well.
Get our fee wet with other projects on the
Internet before doing one of these. However, once
you are ready, heres some places to go to find
projects to try.

WebQuestshttp//webquest.sdsu.edu/webquest.htmlD
eveloped in 1995 by Bernie Dodge and Tom March
A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity
activity in which most or all of the information
used by learning is drawn from the Web. They
are intended to alter the focus of a student
using the Internet from spending too much time
looking for needed information to effectively
using of time using the needed information.
WebQuests should increase the learners use of
analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. They are
often cooperative group work with each learner
given a specific job title, assignment, and tasks.
18
Interactive tutorial sites
These are sites that will allow you to see
demonstrations and interactive projects.
Remember, for some of these sites a fast, up to
date computer is necessary. The more video,
sound, and graphics you view, the faster the
machine needs to be for it to work well.

Bad Sciencehttp//www.ems.psu.edu/fraser/BadSc
ience.html
Be very, very careful what you put into the
head, because you will never, ever get it out.
Cardinal Wolsey (1475-1530)
This a site that I found that doesnt fall into
any category. It is called Bad Science.
This site is an attempt to sensitize teachers and
students to examples of the bad science often
taught in schools, universities, and offered in
popular articles and even textbooks.
33
The Future of the Internet
  • Changing the way teachers teach and students
    learn
  • Empowers everyone, from adult to child to become
    lifelong learners
  • Complements your school library
  • Connecting more schools to the world
  • Students need Net access to become the knowledge
    workers of the 21st Century.
  • Live video conferencing between entire classes of
    students, worldwide
  • Live audio conferencing
  • Streaming video

34
In Conclusion
  • Keep searching for sites. There are new sites
    every minute.
  • Always make sure you try sites out BEFORE you use
    them with students
  • Never let students surf the net especially
    young students
  • Make sure you have some sort of directed study
    while using the Internet.
  • Tell or show students what sites you want them to
    use.

Most of all the Internet is a GREAT resource for
every science classroom and teacher. Make sure
you are using it. And have fun!
