Transcript and Presenter's Notes

Title: Dunn:

1
  • Dunn
  • Those who are ethically opposed to human-embryo
research may choose, for themselves and for their
families, not to make use of any cures that
arise. But to deny those cures to the rest of us,
in my opinion, is simply unconscionable.
  • Which is closer to Mills view of individualistic
    harms..
  • Freedom to pursue human-embryo research?
  • Freedom to advance ones ethical/religious belief?

2
Scientific review/publication vs. the mass media
  • Both Dunn and Weinberg discuss ACTs ill-fated
decision to publish results (in a scientific
journal of questionable reputation) that were
    premature and inaccurate.
  • Why did ACT do this? Were they simply
irresponsible or were they in some way compelled
    to do so?
  • What (if anything) could human-embryo researchers
learn by reading the Stone book?
