What Caused the Changes?

• Main contributor was the Industrial Revolution in
  the mid 19th century.
• Burning fossil fuels in vehicles, power
  generation and industry.
• Indiscriminate deforestation.
• Use of chemicals that were thought to be
  innocuous, but harm the environment like CFCs,
  DDT and VOCs.
• Ruthless exploitation of natural resources.

Why No Environment Education in Schools?

• Various parts incorporated in to different
  subjects.
• Present administration does not see need to have
  dedicated subject.
• No environmental disaster yet in Malaysia, apart
  from haze and tsunami.
• Environment not yet a high priority in Malaysia,
  as we are still developing.

• Increased sensitivity of students to the
  environment and consequences of their actions.
• Students will see that their actions will affect
  the environment.
• They may reduce/change their habits that
  adversely affect the environment.
• They will see themselves as part of the world
  environment, not separate from it.
