4Mercury
- Mercury is the planet closest to the blast
furnace of the Sun. It's a small planet, only
slightly larger than our Moon. Its "day" is
nearly as long as its "year". At high noon, the
temperature is high enough to melt lead and zinc
at its Equator. But the North Pole seems to be
made of ice. Mercury has a wrinkled surface
because it seems to have shrunk, like an apple
drying in the Sun. -
Mercury has always been hard to look at, because
it is so close to the Sun. You can see Mercury
for less than two hours before sunrise, or less
than two hours after sunset. So the ancient
astronomers actually believed that Mercury was
two planets. Mercury was the planet seen in the
early evenings, while Apollo was the planet seen
in the early morning. The Romans called this
planet after Mercury, the wing-footed messenger
of the gods, because it moved so fast through the
sky.
5Asteroids
- There are a few asteroids which cross through
Mercurys orbit. These include Adonis,
Hephaistos, Hathor, Epona, Heracles and Illapa.
6Caloris Basin
- One of the largest features on Mercury's surface
is the Caloris Basin it is about 1300 km in
diameter. It is thought to be similar to the
large basins (Maria) on the Moon. Like the lunar
basins, it was probably caused by a very large
impact early in the history of the solar system.
That impact was probably also responsible for the
odd terrain on the exact opposite side of the
planet .
7Accommodation
- Tourists will be staying at the Hilton Universe
6 Star Hotel. It is a floating sky city which has
a casino at ground floor. Normal lifestyles are
maintainable in this fabulous hotel, meaning that
this hotel is just like any hotel on Earth except
more advanced. Each room contains a bathroom,
kitchen, lounge room and 2 bedrooms. - There are also facilities which offer a variety
of sports to play and a relaxing, quiet area for
those who wish for peace. - For safety reasons, alcohol is NOT to be taken to
space. If it is found in any of your luggage we
have the right to confiscate it and return it to
you once we return to Earth.
