ABOUT THE WORKSHOP - Remote Sensing Geographical Information
System (RS GIS) programme is a recent
development for an integrated resource management
system for the optimal utilization of natural
resources by a proper and systematic inventory of
the resource availability in conjunction with
conventional techniques. - With the active participation and funding
support from user agencies from both Govt.
NGOs, the technology over the last two decades
has matured to cover diverse resource themes
forest, agriculture, waste land mapping, disaster
(flood and drought) monitoring damage
assessment, land use / land cover mapping,
terrain analysis, urban planning, mineral
targeting and environment impact assessment etc. - NNRMS (National Natural Resources
Management Systems) of Indian Space Research
Organisaton primarily responsible for the
application of RS GIS techniques for the
resource management of the nation and is a strong
believer of the concept of user-involvement-and-pa
rticipation. - As a service to the user community in
development of specialist man power conversant
with digital analysis and RS GIS, the NNRMS /
ISRO encourages various academic institutes to
conduct a limited number of training courses each
of two-weeks duration, specially for the faculty
members of Universities/Colleges/Institutes from
various disciplines so as to provide enough
knowledge and confidence to them to understand
the concept of RS GIS. - The Department of Computer Science
Engineering of Sikkim Manipal Institute of
Technology, Sikkim is privileged to be chosen by
NNRMS / ISRO as a focal point to conduct TWO
Numbers of Two-Weeks training programme on RS
GIS during January and May, 2008. The progranmme
is fully sponsored by NNRMS / ISRO and are
strictly restricted to the permanent faculty
members of all Engineering branches, Mathematical
Sciences, Physics, Botany, Geology and Geography
from Universities/Colleges/Institutes. There is
no course fee for the training programme. Travel
expenses by IInd class sleeper train / Bus and
accommodation and fooding will be reimbursed by
the host institute. On successful completion of
the course, the trainees will receive
Certificate of Participation. - After the successful completion of the
First training programme during Jan 14 27,
2008, we are gearing up with more enthusiasm for
commencement of the Second programme during June
2 15, 2008 at SMIT. - TOPICS TO BE COVERED
- Eminent speakers from NNRMS / ISRO, IIT,
Kharagpur, NATMO Kolkata, BIT Mesra and other
Institutes / Govt agencies including our in-house
faculties will cover the following topics in the
Two-Weeks Training Programme. - Basics of Remote Sensing Satellite data
products. - Introduction to Digital Image Processing (DIP) -
Image Reading, Geometric Correction, Enhancement,
Filtering, - Classification, Information Extraction, Visual
Interpretation - Microwave Remote Sensing
