• The MSI 6260CS is perfect when no local display
  is needed, and the customer would prefer a
  wireless display and/or data acquisition,

• Application Solution Container Crane
  RetrofitThe Problem The maintenance manager at
  a major shipping port wanted to retrofit the load
  monitoring systems on their existing container
  cranes. The OEM equipment was not functioning
  properly and there was no service/support
  available. Simplicity and reliability were the
  key desired attributes along with local service
  and support.
• Solution A variety of strain gage sensor designs
  and multiple sensor locations can be utilized to
  monitor the loads on container cranes. In this
  case,load sensors were installed on the boom tip
  of the container crane to sense the load through
  the sheave. The load cell outputs were hardwired
  to an MSI- 9000 CellScale to interface with the
  container cranes PLC control system, and the
  standard MSI-9000 CellScale set points were
  programmed to trip safety interlocks for
  eccentric / unbalanced loads, overload and slack
  line conditions.

Features and Benefits The CellScale easily
integrated with the existing control system.
Using the set point relay outputs on the
CellScale to trip the safety interlocks provided
a quicker reaction time that minimized potential
damage and improved crane safety. This simple
installation proved very reliable for the port.

• Application Solution Marine Vessel Weighing
  SystemThe Problem A boat manufacturer was
  seeking a solution to view and record accurate
  weights throughout multiple stages of the
  manufacturing process. The most vital application
  objective was to provide a means to determine the
  center of gravity for each manufactured vessel.
• Solution During the manufacturing process the
  boat is lifted on a gantry crane utilizing four
  pick points and two hull support slings. In an
  effort to integrate the weighing solution within
  the confines of the gantry crane, the four pick
  points were selected for locating load sensors.
  To minimize modification to the existing crane
  and lifting rigging, MSI provided four custom
  dimensioned load links for in-line installation
  with current rigging at each pick point.
• To effectively process all four load link outputs
  simultaneously, the MSI-9000 CellScale was the
  choice instrumentation. The MSI-9000 provided the
  required capability to process each load link
  input independently and collectively towards
  calculating the center of gravity. In addition,
  the processed data required real time transfer to
  a remote PC for viewing and recording. Utilizing

the MSI-9000 with internal 2.4 GHz RF modem
allowed collected data to be transmitted
wirelessly in real time to a remote PC. Each
stage of the manufacturing and weighing process
is viewed, controlled and recorded at the PC

  connected to a wall mounted scoreboard.

Features and Benefits The compact packaging and
versatile mounting of the standard CellScale
provided an easy integration with the MSI-Load
Pin Sensor on the coil grabber. The CellScale
system transmitted and the Scoreboard displayed
total coil weight during each lift. Using a
12-volt SLA battery to power the CellScale and
load cell eliminated the need for separate power
cables and provided approximately 25 hours of
continuous use between charges. The expandability
objective could be easily accommodated by adding
an additional MSI-9020 CellModem to the Network
for interfacing with their host computer
