Section 1 The Stone Age Survival Skills

Fire Making
Stone age people used fire to keep warm, cook
food and for protection from predators. Before
they learned to make fire, they had to get it
from lightning strikes or volcanoes. They even
may have stolen it from other bands.
4
The Hunting Dance
The hunting dance was important, because they
believed that dancing and chanting was good luck
in hunting animals for food, clothing, and
weapons. It also was important, because it was to
honor the animals they hunted.

Tool Making
This type of tool making technique is called
flaking. It was invented by the Cro-Magnons. Some
other names for this technique are the Stone
Blade method and the Rocker-Punch flaking method.
Some tools that were made by this technique are
spears, knives, axes, needles, and harpoons.
Beside the Cro-Magnons using this method,
Neanderthals have used this method too. This
method superior to other tool making methods of
the Stone Age, because the method was capable of
producing various flake tools. Materials that
were used make chisels, are rocks, antler horns,
or bones. Materials that were used to make
hammers were rocks or stones. Rock cores were a
type of rock that was placed under the chisel to
be made into flakes.
