on how to approach SOL test taking with their
    child.

3
Have a designated study area
  • Set aside a specific time and place to study each
    night.
  • The place should be quiet and free of
    distractions.
  • All materials should be available.
  • Make sure your child is comfortable and has
    plenty of space.

4
Preparing for the SOL
  • Make sure your child completes all of their
homework which will help make sure your child is
    prepared for the test.
  • If your child is struggling with the curriculum,
talk to them about it and meet with their teacher
to find out the best way to help your child.
  • Review tests, class work, and homework, with your
child and go over any mistakes they have made.

5
SOL Anxiety
  • Mark down test days on your calendar so you and
your child are both aware of testing days.
  • If you are anxious about the SOLs its OK, but
try to stay calm around your child, you dont
want them to get anxious about their tests.
  • If your child is having SOL anxiety you can
relieve stress by talking about the test with
them. You may also want to notify the teacher
    about their anxiety.

6
Testing Taking Attitude
  • Keep a positive attitude about the SOLs and test
    taking in general.
  • Encourage your child to do well but dont
pressure him/ her. Pressure may stress your
    child out.
  • Praise or reward your child for their hard work
    preparing for the SOL tests.

7
The Night Before the SOL
  • Let your child relax for a few hours before
bedtime, it can be stressful for a child to study
    all night.
  • Make sure that your child gets enough sleep.

8
The Day of the SOL
  • Make sure your child gets up early enough so that
he/she will be on time to school.
  • Ensure that your child eats a healthy breakfast.
    Avoid heavy or sugary foods.
  • Encourage your child to do their best!
