What is it? Percussion
  • Similar to marching percussion, but only uses
    battery and pit percussion.
  • 2 types of groups concert and marching.
  • Concert everyone stands still and performs
  • Marching battery percussion moves/plays, pit
    percussion stands still
  • Music is live no conductor used!
  • Perform indoors gyms/arenas/etc.
  • Also part of Atlantic Indoor Association

Atlantic Indoor Association
  • Organization made up of indoor guards
    percussion ensembles from Maryland, Virginia,
    North Carolina.
  • Encourages the development and spread of indoor
    performance ensembles.
  • Groups can be sponsored by a school (scholastic)
    or another organization (independent).
  • Sponsors competitions throughout the region from
    January through early April.

When is it?
  • We will begin before Christmas break auditions
    coming very soon.
  • Experience a plus but not required quality not
    quantity
  • Need students who can read music or fast learner
    for keyboard percussion.
  • Groups will have some weekend camps stay out
    at school on different weekends, learn
    drill/work/etc. Staff will work with students in
    an intense environment.

When is it?
  • Not a class students wont receive academic
    credit. Similar to extra curricular
    activity/sport.
  • Students must attend rehearsals performances
    attention to detail is higher and individual
    responsibility is higher also.
  • Groups will compete in at least 4 different
    competitions and the AIA championships in late
    March. The competitions are on Saturdays.

How much is it?
  • Try to keep expenses down, but plan on
    approximately 400-600 per student
  • Costs include paying additional instructors,
    costumes, floor tarp maintenance, AIA fees,
    purchasing music, editing recordings, etc

Why do we do it? So what?
  • Todays band program includes these groups to
    offer more in-depth performance experiences for
    students. There is no off season in band, just
    like many academic subjects/sports/activities/etc.
  • Develops/enhances individual talents/skills,
    making marching and concert band programs
    stronger. Consider this to be a tutoring program
    for our students.
  • No losers unless you dont take advantage!
