My Experience in Agriculture and the FFA

All About Me!

• I am 16 Years old
• I am a Junior at Clovis High School
• I live on a farm with my grandparents, mom, and
  my brother Chad who is also in FFA this year as a
  freshman.
• I have shown in the FFA for two years.

When I started

• I started taking AG classes in my Freshman year
  of High School.
• At the end of this school year, I will have
  completed three years in the agricultural program
  at Clovis East High School.
• I have been taking AG classes since my Freshman
  year, and have been a part of the FFA since the
  end of my Freshman year.

In the Classroom

• Freshman Year
• I took AG Biology
• This class teaches you about cells, and DNA,
  etc..
• Sophomore Year
• I took AG 2
• This class is animal science and physiology
• This class teaches you about the different parts
  of the animal and how they help keep the animal
  healthy and strong.

• Junior Year
• I am currently taking Botany
• This class is teaching me a lot about plants.
• The different parts on the plants, and how they
  are essential to keeping the plant healthy and
  strong.
• We work a lot in the Greenhouse, where my class
  keeps all of our plants.

My SAE Project

• At the end of my Freshman year is when I
  purchased my first animal.
• I purchased a cross ewe lamb, and her name was
  Tammie.
• I took her to the Fresno County Fair in October
  2001.
• I got second in my market class.
• I also got 9th in Showmanship out of over 100
  other participants.

My SAE Project cont..

• At the end of my sophomore year I purchased
  another lamb.
• I purchased a Suffix wether lamb, and his name
  was Mack.
• I took him to the California State Fair in
  Sacramento in August 2002.
• In October of that same year I took him to the
  Fresno County Fair where I won my showmanship
  class and I got to come back and try to win all
  of showmanship.
• There I got 7th overall.

My SAE Project cont

• At the beginning of my Junior year I purchased a
  steer.
• I purchased a Limousine steer, and his name is
  Kai. Which is short for Malakai.
• This year I will be taking him to the Fresno
  County Fair in October.
• This year I also bought a Dorset ewe lamb, her
  name is Maggie.
• I will be taking her to the California State Fair
  where hopefully I will be able to be in the sale
  of Champions.

My FFA Experience

• I started with my first contest in the beginning
  of my Sophomore year. This is where I did
  Opening and Closing with my Chapter.
• In January of 2002 I started on the Livestock
  Judging Team.

• In the beginning of my Junior year I did Opening
  and Closing again.
• In April of this year, for the first time, I went
  to the California State Leadership Conference.
• I have also shown at 2 County Fairs and 1 State
  Fair.

My future plans in agriculture and the FFA

• Next year in my senior year of high school, I
  plan on taking the ROP Veterinary Science class
  offered at Clovis East High School.
• The first semester of this class is spent in the
  classroom. The second semester is spent at a job
  site for further experience.

• I will be showing at the California State Fair in
  August with my lamb Maggie.
• I will also be showing at the Big Fresno Fair in
  October with my steer Kai.
• I will most likely purchase another lamb at the
  end of my senior year to show at the Fresno Fair
  in October of 2004.
