• The Setting A messenger came and told David,
  The hearts of the men of Israel are with
  Absalom--II Samuel 1513.
• Psalms written The king and all the people with
  him arrived at their destination exhausted. And
  there he refreshed himself--II Samuel 1614.

Psalm 3A psalm of David when he fled from his
son Absalom.

• 1 O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise
  up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, "God
  will not deliver him." Selah 3 But you are a
  shield around me, O LORD you bestow glory on me
  and lift up my head. 4 To the LORD I cry
  aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill.
  Selah 5 I lie down and sleep I wake again,
  because the LORD sustains me. 6 I will not fear
  the tens of thousands drawn up against me on
  every side. 7 Arise, O LORD! Deliver me, O my
  God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw break the
  teeth of the wicked. 8 From the LORD comes
  deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.

The Imprecatory Psalms are usually arranged
like this

• 1) They start (or have a section in the Psalm)
  where they recall the problems, the
  difficulties that are in the psalmists life.
  This could be a full range of human emotion
  anger, deep sadness.
• 2) There is an affirmation of faith
• 3) There is a prayer
• 4) and then there is praise.
  
• These Psalms could be the blues
  of their day!

I. Our Dilemma--Satans attempts to write our
spiritual biography--vv. 1-2.

• He begins by trying to scare us with
• A. The Size of the Opposition. v. 1 --
  O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise
  up against me! Solution II Kings 615-17
  Hebrews 114.
• B. The Lies of the Opposition. v. 2-- Many are
  saying of me, God will not deliver him. Selah

• 1. What are some negative perspectives that
  others/Satan can say to us that can influence
  our perception of who we are?
• 2. How about the doubts Satan tries to
  plant in our soul? Satan will try to get us to
  doubt what God has said in the Word as often as
  he can.

II. Our Defense--vv. 3-8
How to write an accurate
and truthful soul biography.

• A. Our God is our protection. v. 3a--
  ...you are a shield around me, O LORD.
• B. Our God bestows glory on us. v. 3b--
  you bestow glory on me...
• C. Our God lifts us up when we are down. v.
  3c-- But you are a shield around me, O LORD
  you bestow glory on me and lift
  up my head.

• D. Our God also answers our prayers. v. 4--
