Cheese Toaster
  • Located in the Dining Room. Water would be poured
into the inner compartment of the toaster with a
rack placed on top. Bread and cheese would be
placed on the rack, the lid closed and the
toaster placed on the fire to heat. The hot water
would cook the bread and cheese.

3
Trivet
  • Located in the Dining Room. This object would be
used as a place to rest a kettle or saucepan near
    the fire.

4
Flintlock Lighter

    to light pipes or candles.

5
Tea Caddy
  • Located in the Drawing Room. This is where the
lady of the house would keep her tea. Tea was so
expensive that it had to be locked away in case
the servants tried to steal it.

6
Sugar Nippers

    used to iron clothes.

9
Bottle Jack
  • Located in the Kitchen. This device contains a
series of springs, cogs and gears which allow the
bottom section of the jack to rotate around. This
section would have been attached to a meat hook
holding a joint of meat and placed next to the
fire. The meat would then turn slowly so that it
    cooked evenly.

10
Jelly Mould
  • Located in the Kitchen. Jellies and deserts were
very important during the Georgian period. The
Kitchen has a number of very elaborate jelly
moulds that were designed to impress!
