Initiatives taken earlier at Tesco

• Rain water recharging pits (36nos) at campus help
  recharge the ground water during rains
• Recycled water used for garden/landscaping
  through sprinkler/drip irrigation system, ensures
  watering of plants as well recharging. Recovery
  of 60 from STP is achieved with better upkeep
• Auto flush for urinals with adjustment in flow
  timing and WC flush adjusted with reduced water
  quantity while flushing
• Avoided plastic bottles for drinking water and
  instead used recyclable PET cups
• Avoided plastic cups for coffee/tea/beverages and
  instead used paper cups
• Translocated trees due to construction activity
  (with a success rate of 60 achieved)

• Celebrated WE day on 5th June with planting of
  appx. 50 tree saplings
• Created 5000sft of organic garden, with good
  yield of vegetables and used only organic manure
  organic pesticides (Neem, etc.)
• Garden waste is collected at the compost pit for
  generation of organic manure
• Wet waste (FB) is handed over to piggeries and
  dry waste is reduced by clear segregation
• Reduced per capita consumption per month from 320
  to 275 kwh per month and now to 260kwh and per
  sft consumption from 2.00 to 1.75kwh/sft

• Used PLC control for lighting at work areas by
  zone controlled lighting as per shift timings and
  also occupancy sensors (motion) installed at all
  closed rooms including conference, meeting,
  training toilets
• Timers/PLC for external lighting system
• Installed solar water heating system for
  providing hot water at the food court kitchen for
  cleaning at the gym for shower
• VFDs VAVs in HVAC system controlled through
  BMS and season dependent settings for HVAC and
  use of water cooled/air-cooled chillers as per
  plan
• Ensured optimum loading of DGs (Reduction in cost
  per unit from Rs. 10.00 to Rs. 8.00 compared to
  appx. Rs. 5.00 on Bescom mains)

• DG Sets
• Installed catalytic converter on one set to
  avoid air pollution from engine exhaust which
  nullified carbon monoxide (regulation lt150ppm)
  and also reduced oxides of nitrogen to 53ppm
  (regulation lt710ppm)
• Installed engine oil saver on one set to reduce
  frequent replacement of lubricating oil. Carbon
  foot print reduced by (CO2)by 1.7 tonnes

Recent green initiatives

• Solid state lighting
• Replaced existing external light fixtures from
  70w SVP to 20w LED fixtures and increased light
  output from 5 to 15 lux
• Internal common area lights (PL13/18w) are
  replaced with 5.7W LED fixtures
• Ultrasonic algae controller for water bodies
• Controls growth of algae/microbes
• Water savings of 3.24Laks Ltr p.a.
