2One-Stop Shop to find grants
Grants.gov began in 2003 to centralize the
process of seeking and applying for grant funding
from all federal agencies. Currently all 26
federal agencies must post funding opportunities
on the grants.gov "find" system, located at the
site at http//www.grants.gov/search/basic.do.
3Time-Line for Implementation
- All federal grant applications are expected to
transition to grants.gov over the next few years.
- Currently, agencies state in solicitations where
the proposal is to be submitted electronically.
4Registration
- Step 1 Register your organization
- Obtain organization DUNS (Data Universal Number
System) Number - Register your organization with Central
Contractor Registry (CCR) - Identify your organizations E-biz Point of
Contact (POC) - Confirm your organizations M-Pin password.

- Step 2 Registration of your Authorized
Organizational Representative (AOR) - This person will sign the grant applications for
the university. - The AOR must be registered with grants.gov and
approved by your organization E-biz POC.
6Registration Considerations
Principal Investigators (PIs) and grant writers
do not have to register on grants.gov. HOWEVER P
Is must register on all federal grant websites to
which they will apply.
7Finding Grants
- Access Search Grant Opportunities on grants.gov
to find grants. - To receive email notifications of grants
available in your discipline, access Grant
Opportunity Subscription Services. - A tutorial at the grants.gov site is available.
8Downloading an Application
Click on Apply for Grants on the Main Menu
- Install PureEdge Viewer (one time only)
- Find the Application
- Download the Application
9Completing the Application
- Once you have downloaded the application package,
you can complete it offline. - Instructions are available to assist you on the
application package cover sheet to explain how to
open and use the forms in the application
package. - Also, you will have direct access to the agency
application instructions, which will include all
the necessary information on what is required for
your submission.

11Completing the Application Considerations
- Work on the Narrative, Budget Narrative, and
Abstract in Microsoft Office and convert to PDF
format - Scan in all letters of support and other
attachments and convert to PDF format - Section A Budget Summary use for all budget
items that will be funded by the grant - Section B Budget Summary use for all
Non-Federal Funds, i.e. Matching Funds - Your research office can help with forms and
assurances
12Submitting the Application
- Who You or the Research Office
- When As early as possible
- How
- Save your application to your computer as
changes are NOT automatically saved. - Remember to click the Save button when you have
completed the package and are ready to submit
it.

- Click Check Package for Errors
- Correct errors (if applicable)
- Resave (if applicable)
- Repeat d through f until no errors are found
- Click Submit
14Submitting Considerations
- The package cannot be submitted until all
required fields have been completed (enter N/A
for fields that are Not Applicable). - Grants submitted are date/time stamped and sent
through to the granting agency. - The granting agency may send it back with errors
noted.

- If errors are found, you have to correct them and
start all over again with the submission process.
- If successful, the submitter will receive four
confirmation emails throughout the process.
