8Leadership in Energy Environmental Design
(LEED)
- A leading-edge consensus-based system for
designing, constructing, operating and certifying
the worlds greenest buildings. - Created by US Green Building Council, adapted for
Canada by Canada Green Building Council - LEED is a point-based system
- 4 performance levels Certified, Silver, Gold
Platinum

9About LEED
- Relatively simple to implement
- Not overly prescriptive
- Targets top 25 of the market
- Continuously being improved
- 3rd party certification
- Provides common language

11introduction expectations
Why are we all here today?
Building with purpose
We cant solve problems by using the same kind
of thinking we used when creating them. Albert
Einstein
Everything should be made as simple as possible,
but not simpler. Albert Einstein
12introduction popular education
Building with purpose
Education must begin with the solution of the
teacher-student contradiction, by reconciling the
poles of the contradiction so that both are
simultaneously teachers and students. Paulo
Freire

17IDP drivers
What is IDP? In general, the integrated design
process is an approach to building design that
seeks to achieve high performance on a wide
variety of well-defined environmental and social
goals while staying within budgetary and
scheduling constraints. It relies upon a
multi-disciplinary and collaborative team whose
members make decisions together based on a shared
vision and a holistic understanding of the
project. It follows the design through the
entire project life, from pre-design through
occupancy and into operation. Roadmap for IDP

26IDP theory and practice
As to the question, when does IDP start and
stop? ideally IDP never stops. It leaves a
legacy in people and within organizations that
does not stop. It just continues to permeate
throughout. Barbara Batshalom

integrates multiple systems, perspectives and
ideas.

29Roles and Responsibilities in IDP
Building with purpose
30IDP roles
The challenges of these times call for
collective intelligence. We must co-create the
solutions we seek it is common sense to bring
people together in conversation when you seek new
solutions for the common good When human beings
are invited to work together, they will take
ownership and responsibility for moving their
ideas into action. Margaret Wheatley

What is facilitation? Facilitation is the
commitment to work in and with groups to find and
articulate their collective wisdom.

Since one persons knowledge can only represent
a fragment of the totality of what is known,
wisdom can be achieved when people combine what
they have learned. Paul Hawken
