    Interventions (SRBI) effective by July 2009.
  • Linking curricular areas, mandates across the
    content areas, and the skills of reading and
    writing across the curriculum.
  • Time flexibility to personalize learning.

1. Impact of Scientific Research Based
Interventions (SRBI)
  • The focus of SRBI involves instruction and
    interventions in general education
  • An upcoming revision of Connecticut state
    guidelines for Identifying Children with Learning
    Disabilities will require SRBI
  • Tiered instruction
  • Progress monitoring

2. Linking curricular areas, mandates across the
content areas, and the skills of reading and
writing across the curriculum.
  • Middle school characteristics
  • Linking curriculum and skills across content
    areas
  • Curriculum that is challenging, integrative and
    exploratory.
  • Longer class length for Science, Math, Social
    Studies will allow for greater integration of
    reading and writing skills.
  • Flexible organizational structures
  • Teams will have ability to extend periods or
    block time as needed.
