Financial Aid
  • Each case is based on individual needs,
    including
  • Rent/mortgage payments
  • Payment of overdue utilities
  • Vehicle payments and repairs
  • Groceries
  • Clothing
  • Air transportation
  • Ground transportation which includes taxi rides
    to and from DC area airports, dollars given to
    purchase gas for traveling by car to medical
    facilities and train tickets
  • Personal requested items by service members and
    their families
  • Anything else which might be needed

How Wounded Soldiers Families are Affected
  • Most households in the USA are
  • 2-income.
  • When our Service Members are
  • wounded overseas, they are
  • placed in a military hospital,
  • almost always far from the home.
  • Injuries occurring from the Global
  • War on Terror are so severe in many
  • cases that recovery time will be long
  • term and for others it could become a
  • lifetime of needs and support.
  • Understandably, a spouse or parent,
  • quits their job to be with their loved
  • one in time of extreme need.

How Wounded Soldiers Families are Affected cont
  • So household income goes down, and expenses go
    up
  • Consequently, a good number of them are losing
    their houses, or having their utilities cut off,
    they cannot manage to keep up.
  • Our government is doing all they can but the
    number of wounded is so significant that American
    citizens need to come forward and take
    responsibility for those that fight for our
    Freedoms.
  • Because of advances in body armor, and medical
    treatments, casualties which would have died in
    earlier wars, are living now
  • There are 30,000 wounded soldiers from the Iraq
    and Afghanistan conflicts.

Military Family Assistance Program
  • OFR provides financial aid to wounded,
  • injured and critically-ill service members
  • and their families during the recovery
  • period of the service member.
  • We also provide aid to those who are
  • making the transition from military life
  • to civilian life after being medically
  • retired.
  • There is a significant lapse of time, from
  • six months to one year, between the
  • retirement and the onset of VA benefits,
  • causing many families to have utility
  • services disconnected, lose homes, and
  • not be able to provide for the basic needs
  • of their families.
  • This aid begins at the onset of injury, and is
  • continuously available until transition into
  • civilian life is complete.

Travel Program
  • OFR provides air transportation for family
  • members of wounded, injured, and
    critically-ill
  • service members.
  • OFR provides train transportation for family
  • members of wounded, injured, and critically-ill
  • service members.
  • OFR provides car service transportation to and
  • from DC area airports to major military medical
  • facilities for family members of wounded,
    injured
  • and critically-ill service members.

Backpack Program
  • OFR sends backpacks to wounded service
  • members located at Landstuhl Regional
  • Medical Center and combat support units
  • located in Iraq.
  • These backpacks are filled with a set of
  • clothing, hygiene products, a handmade
  • blanket, and a phone card and sent to a
  • POC to be given to our wounded upon arrival.
  • These items enable our wounded to have some
  • personal items considering many have their
  • uniforms cut off in the battlefield and it may
    takes
  • weeks or months for personal items to be
    returned.

Our Results
  • The staff of OFR has had the honor of working
    with our Nation's wounded Heroes and their
    families on a daily basis since 2004. The
    support and generosity of our Volunteers and
    Donors have enabled us to meet literally
    thousands of their needs. Our caring and
    compassionate staff goes above and beyond to
    impress upon our Military, our deep respect and
    gratefulness to each of them.

More Results
  • 2,199 wounded Heroes and their families have
    received assistance with mortgage rent
    utilities vehicle payments groceries and other
    various expenses.
  • 1014 wounded Heroes and their families have
    received air transportation.
  • 1,033 wounded Heroes and their families have
  • received ground transportation and lodging.
  • 5,254 OFR Backpacks have been sent to Combat
  • Support Hospitals in the Theatre.
  • Thousands of wounded Heroes and their family
  • members have received emotional support.
  • All have received the honor and respect that
  • they so rightfully deserve!

Core Values
  • We are determined to make a difference in the
    quality of life for injured or critically ill
    military service members and their families.
  • We value, respect, and protect the privacy and
    dignity of the families we serve.
  • We accept that we are part of a larger team, all
    dedicated to the same goals and objectives, and
    understand that as a team member, we are
    accountable for our actions, and the reflection
    of those actions upon all such organizations.
  • We are honest and trustworthy and do what is
    right when no one is watching.
  • We have two main goals, both achievable and
    interdependent.
  • One is to be the solution for the military
    family.
  • Two is to build a network of support and funding
    with a sense of urgency that supports our vision
    and meets our high ethical standards.

OFR Needs
  • Grants from Charitable Institutions. To be used
    for Operations and for Aid to Our Cases.
  • Frequent Flyer (FF) Mile Donations Consolidation
    Ability. Most airlines have Donate Miles to
    Charities pages, where gifts of FF miles, can be
    transferred to the Charitable, without transfer
    fee. At present, we are only able to work with
    FF miles donations each large enough to
    facilitate at least 1 flight. The ability to
    accept a large number of smaller amounts of FF
    miles, could be a huge benefit to us, and our
    wounded soldiers and their families.
  • Publicity Campaign, On-Going. To help us quickly
    achieve the above. We work with a limited
    budget, and never have enough FF miles, so we
    have to say no to some requests for aid, while
    we say yes to others, as we are forced to
    decide, which case needs the aid more
    desperately.
