1How to buy a Personal Computer
- Personal Computer- A computer that can perform
all of its input, output, processing, and storage
activities by itself and contains at least one
input device, one output device, one storage
device, memory, and a processor. - OR- A computer system that meets the needs of an
individual. - The term pc usually refers to an IBM-compatible
computer. - When you buy a pc, make sure you know what you
want it for. Is it for home, business, or both?
Should you buy a Mac or Pc? Should you buy a
mobile or desktop computer? Should the computer
you buy be compatible with other computers? -
2Can you use your computer system now that you
have it?
- Today, computer systems come with written manuals
and disk files that help you set everything up.
A brochure with accurate and detailed drawings
will help you plug it together. - The installation process is conveniently on disk.
- Also included is a users guide, which is used as
a reference guide. - Software tutorials come with the computer and are
located on a separate disk or CD-Rom. - In addition to the help provided by the tutorials
and the users guide, numerous books and magazines
are also a good way to teach yourself more about
using the computer. - Hands-on learning may be the most effective way
to help yourself with computers, like taking
classes at a computer store, local college, or
adult-education program at a local high school.
Decide how to use it! Deciding what you will use
your computer for is all up to you. If you want
to store lots of photographs or MP3 files, then
you will need a big hard drive. If multimedia
work is what you seek, then you also seek a good
video card, a DVD drive, and substantial memory.
If you plan to connect a bunch of peripherals,
such as printers, scanners, digital cameras, and
so-on.
