• Multi Level Car Park.
• Four Levels in total.
• Counters at each entry point , on each level of
  the car park.
• Counters provide information about vacant spaces
  available
• for car parking at each level.

Availability of vacant spaces for parking

• Sensors are installed at each entry and exit
  point, at each level of the car
• park.
• As a car enters the car park, the total number
  of vacant spaces is
• subtracted by 1.
• As a car exits the car park, the total number of
  vacant spaces is
• incremented by 1.
• This results in the total number of vacant
  spaces being displayed at the
• counters.

Types of parking tickets available

• Parking permits issued by Monash University
  Facilities and Services for
• Monash students and staff.
• Parking tickets for visitors which have to be
  bought at the car parks by
• using the ticketing machines.

Existing payment options for car parking

• Parking permits have to be bought from Monash
  University Facilities and
• Services by filling up an application form.
• Visitor tickets have to be bought from the
  ticketing machines located at the
• parking areas.
• There is currently no means of buying the permits
  or visitors parking tickets, online or by other
  electronic sources.

Parking Infringement

• Monash University, Clayton have special
  personnel who are responsible
• to check for any parking violations.
• They use wireless handheld devices to check if
  the cars have a valid
• parking permit.
• The parking permit number is entered into the
  handheld device, which
• then displays the date and the time when the
  ticket was bought and the
• time when the permit expires.

Things to consider for the project

• There is no means to provide the drivers with
  the exact location of the vacant
• car parking bay. Information can only be
  provided about which level has
• vacant spaces for parking.
• Information regarding the server which processes
  and keeps a count of the
• vehicles entering and exiting from the car
  park is needed.
• Information regarding the database with which
  the ticketing machine
• communicates is also required in order to
  provide SMS notifications to the
• drivers regarding expiry time of their
  tickets.
