• Review internal and external dependencies

Purchase and maintain volume and site license
software

• Provide this service to Clusters, division and
  campus community
• 18 of the budget is spent on software used
  exclusively in clusters
• 80 of the budget is spent on site or volume
  licensing for campus
• 2 of the budget is spent on licenses for the
  division (which includes Operating systems,
  packaging software, filemaker pro, and vmware)

• A total of 301 service requests were resolved
  from May to March 2005, which is an average of 38
  per month
• Students make up 50 of the requests, while Staff
  is 26 and Faculty request are about 24

• This is the list of software that I am
  responsible for packaging for distribution on My
  Andrew
• Allegro Common Lisp Mac Common Lisp
• Maple Mathematica
• Matlab and toolboxes Minitab
• Symantec Antivirus X-win32
• S-Plus 3D Studio Max
• MathCAD
• ACES (15 applications including AutoCAD)
• It takes about 3-6 hours to prepared each
  software package.

Provide information to community regarding
software licensing

• Maintain database that has information about
  licensing across campus
• Develop relationships with folks across campus
  that buy and maintain software licensing for
  their departments
• Act as a liaison when users call or email
  requesting information

What Service is not provided

• Purchase specialty software for individuals or
  individual departments
• As a general rule, I dont purchase software for
  groups within the division
• Prepare Unix and Linux software for the Andrew
  Unix/Linux or the Andrew archive

• Better strategy for communicating licensing
  terms
• Revise web pages. Simplify layout. Add some
  licensing information to download pages
• Cost of WAH rights
• Reduce collection in labs and divert funds to
  work-at-home options for major licenses
• Fair and Equitable way to spend funds
• Re-establish faculty advisory committee
• Review current guidelines and revise if necessary
