2Why did we add the Student Activities Fee?
- Supports campus life vibrancy, thus helping
with building community AND retention efforts - Provides more monetary support for student
organization programs and services - Encourages more time devoted towards program
planning and less towards fundraising - Increases opportunity for student governance
- Allows for more hands-on experience with fiscal
responsibilities
3How is the Student Activities Fee allocated?
- Total budget overseen by SGA Budget Finance
Committee - 10 members 8 students and 2 faculty/staff
- SGA Treasurer serves as chair
- Student Organizations submit a request for the
following year and/or when additional needs arise - BFC assesses the request and allocates funds
based on policies must be approved by SGA, then
Dean Heida - Student Organizations submit an annual report
each spring detailing how funds were used - BFC will decide on future allocations based on
past history of requests and fiscal
responsibility of student organizations - Unused fee money will be deposited back into the
main account and roll over to the next year
4Summary of allocation thus far
- Estimated fee total of 240,000 for 2007-2008
- 75 charged per student per semester
- 59 student groups have requested funds
- Allocated approximately 214,000 or 89
- 50 to KCAB - 7 to Marthapalooza
- 24 to Student Organizations - 8 to SGA
- Requests have been made for speakers, performers,
trips, conferences, competitions, tournaments,
socials, publicity, equipment, etc.
5Who is using the Student Activities Fee?
- Currently have 82 recognized student
organizations representing wide interests of our
student population - 55 student organizations, 3 media groups and 1
event committee have requested funds - Increase in both number of groups and requested
amounts expected as understanding of fee
potential grows - Share examples today of groups who have
successfully tested the waters this year - Students represent departmental, religious,
recreation, service, special interest and student
association organizations
