Title: Optimization of PISCES
1Optimization of PISCES
Goal for 2009 Development of an assimilation
method to improve PISCES by using new Ocean Color

2MERCATOR and CO2
3Toward an operational marine pCO2 satellite
product
- How to validate MERCATOR CO2 simulations? No
global satellite product available - Within CarboOcean, we have shown that the pCO2
can be estimated using 3 parameters SST, CHL and
MLD. - Two of them are measured from space!
4Toward an operational marine pCO2 satellite
product
- It would be possible to generate a CO2 product
(pCO2 or flux) in quasi real-time by combining
MODIS data (SST,CHL) with Mercator simulations
(MLD). - Might be of interest for people who are doing
atmospheric inversions.
5GLOBPHY Analysis of decadal changes in the
global ocean phytoplankton through the use of
satellite data and 3D-model 3-year project
funded by the French ANR (2006-2008)
6GOAL Identification and interpretation of
decadal changes in ocean color data We are
involved in 1 Building a consistent satellite
CHL archive starting from 1979 (CZCS, SeaWiFS,
MERIS, MODIS) using a specific atmospheric
correction algo. 2 Retrieving new (and
pertinent) parameters using satellite data (PFTs,
IOPs). 3 Comparing decadal trends found in
long-term 3-D ORCA/PISCES simulations with those
observed in Ocean Color data.
7PHYSAT
- First method to detect phytoplankton species at
the global scale - Rely on the analyse of nLw anomalies
- Need more validation
- A great tool to detect the impact of climate
change on marine ecosystems!
