to - include GIS (Geographic
Information Systems) - 2000-2001- Equipment Grant to expand Server and
GPS training - 2000-2002- Grant to expand GIS into specific job
clusters inter- - related with other existing
vocational programs at - Rio Hondo College
- 2002-2004- Grant to expand program to include
Rapid - Prototyping modeling as
another interface for - CADD/GIS technology
4 Whats makes a program stand out?
- New State of the Art Training by Professionals
and Industry - State of the art equipment and software
- Emerging Technology means New Adventure
- A New Challenge and more training for faculty
- In order to be on the cutting edge, you must be a
risk taker. - The program must be Dynamic and Powerful
- The proposed expanded program should complement
your existing successful program
5Best Use of Economic Development Dollars for
Expansion
- Collaboration of effort
- Active partnerships that work
- Leveraging resources
- Build on existing successful programs
6Is the Industry Growing?
Is the job market Hot? Is the need for the
technology growing steadily? Will this technology
expand and enhance your existing program? Is
there a demand for graduates in both public and
private workplace needing trained people in this
technology?
It is Marketable?
Demand for Courses!

28My Recipe for a successful project
- Select a growth technology
- It must be a team effort
- Select the project participants who will follow
through - All Faculty and staff involved must be team
players - If unwilling faculty and staff are forced to be
involved, they will hinder your progress and
success - Select consultants that will deliver as promised
- Faculty, college and support staff must be
flexible and willing to accommodate and adapt to
change - Administration must be willing to take some risk
and participate - Be nice to your support services ( they also must
be team players) - Operate at the edge or just over the edge
- Follow your Work plan religiously
- Move Forward with enthusiasm!
