Joint Medical Field Water Sub-GroupHistory
  • Traditional field water standards/capabilities
focus has been on risks from infectious diseases,
    radiation and NBC threats.
  • Current and future operational environments are
more dangerous and unpredictable due to
  • Ubiquitous risks posed by environmental
    contamination, toxic industrial chemicals and
physical hazards as a result of industrial
    accidents, sabotage, or intentional/unintentional
actions of enemy or friendly forces.
  • Manipulation of environment as a tool of war
(i.e. setting of oil well fires in Kuwait,
massive oil spills in Persian Gulf by Iraqis).
  • There is an urgent need to evaluate field water
standards and capabilities based on future
    potential threats.
