- We have a responsibility, a solemn
responsibility, to be good stewards of the oceans
and the creatures who inhabit them. In 2004, my
administration released an ocean action plan to
promote an ethic of responsible use and
stewardship for our oceans and coastal resources.
By establishing this new National Monument, we
implement an important part of our plan

31FutureYour role in noaas future
- What are your new technologies that enhance
efficiency while budgets are tight? - What is your role in developing NOAAs
Observational Network in 10-15 years? How will
you integrate this information? - How are you going to develop NOAAs future
leaders?

- Platforms Mobile, unmanned aerial and
autonomous undersea vehicles - Information technology - Higher computer
processing speed better data management and
analysis tools - Telecommunications Global networks will link
modeling centers with service providers and users
These technologies will be exploited in Global
Earth Observing System of Systems (GEOSS) and
holistic, high resolution Earth system models
33FutureNOaas telepresence
- Real-time research and outreach with interactive
audio, video and data transmission from ship to
shore - Multiple shore-based scientists are fully
interactive participants in seagoing programs - Technical support and data processing remain
onshore increasing efficiency and cost
