Teachers? Answer The fifth grade teachers are
divided into three teams B Team- Mrs. Flick,
Miss Hockenbroch and Mrs. Rynhart L Team- Mrs.
Klingerman and Mrs. Marro O Team- Mrs. Knorr and
Mrs. Ladonis
3Question How will we find our way around the
building? Answer At orientation you will be
given a tour and if you get lost you can ask a
teacher for help! Your teacher will also walk
you where you need to go on the first couple days
of school. Question What kind of books are in
the library? Answer There are fiction
selections and there are also non-fiction and
reference materials as well as a
variety of magazines and other periodicals.
4Question Who can help me find my room? Answer
Any staff member you see will be willing to help
you find your way around the building
and you will be able to help anyone
else who is lost in no time! Question Do we
have to go to lunch and/or recess with older
kids? Answer No! Fifth graders will eat lunch
together and have recess together so it
will be a great time to catch up
with your friends who are in different
classes.
5Question When is lunch? Answer Lunch for
fifth grader is at 1100. Question Do we have
study halls? Answer Fifth graders do not have
study halls but from 8 830
there is a common time where students can work
on things if they dont have
band or chorus.
6Question What does a 5th graders week look
like? Answer What your day looks like
depends on which Team you are on. See a sample
schedule on the next page.

8Question When will I find out who else is in my
classes? Answer When you come to orientation
you will be able to see who else
is in your class. Question Are the teachers
nice? Answer The fifth grade teachers are the
NICEST TEACHERS IN THE
DISTRICT!
9Question Can 5th graders have salad
bar? Answer Yes, salad bar is a lunch option
everyday.
10Question What is the dress code for 5th
grade? Answer You will receive a student
handbook planner on the first day of school and
it will include lots of
information regarding the rules, including the
dress code. Question Will we get a building
tour before we have to start school? Answer
Yes, all students and parents who attend the
orientation will get a building tour.
11Question Do fifth graders have lockers? Answer
All students will have lockers for their books
near their classroom and students will have
Phys. Ed lockers. Question How can fifth
graders personalize their lockers? Answer
Nothing permanent can be placed in lockers. You
may use magnetic mirrors and/or other
personalized items that do not
damage the lockers in any way.
12Question Are there water fountains in our
classroom and if not where are the closest water
fountains? Answer There are water fountains
located near all restrooms but there are no water
fountains in the classrooms. Question How
many student will be in my classes? Answer
Classes will usually have between 20 and 25
students in them.
13Question Do I have to take home all of my books
every night? Answer No, you only need to take
home books that you need to complete your
homework. Question Can you wear tank tops if
you wear a sleeved top or
sweater over it. Answer Yes, as long as you
leave the sleeved top on until you get home from
school.
14Question Are short-sleeved tops considered
tank tops? Answer No Question When can I go
to my homeroom after I arrive at school? Answer
Students report to the cafeteria until 735 am
and then they dismissed to their homerooms.
15Question How will you know if you are in the
right class? Answer You will want to check
your schedule when you arrive at your classroom.
Your schedule will tell you the name of your
teacher and the room number. If you are at the
wrong class, the teacher will help you find the
correct class. Question What time does school
end? Answer 230 pm.
16Question Is there detention? Answer Students
who have difficulty following rules may have to
eat lunch in the office or
stay after school.
17Question Where are the fifth grade
rooms? Answer The fifth grade rooms are on the
right hand side of the building, you will see the
classroom locations when you come to
orientation! Question How much homework do
fifth graders get? Answer Students should
expect 50 minutes of homework per night. This is
an excellent guide for you to follow. If you
find that you are spending more time than that
you or your parent should contact the guidance
office.
18Question If my friend is in a different class,
will I get to see them? Answer At lunch you
can sit with whoever you like and all 5th graders
have recess together after lunch. Question
What time does school start in the middle
school? Answer Students must be in their
homeroom by 755 am.
19Question If I am a pick up where do I go after
school? Answer You do not need a note when you
are an after-school pick-up. Plan with your
parents where to
meet. Question Are there any sports for 5th
graders? Answer There are community based
sports and there is a swimming
program that is available for 5th grade
students.
20Question Are there any extracurricular
activities for 5th graders? Answer
5th graders will be represented in Student
Council. Every 12 cycle days there are
clubs and 5th graders may participate in
ski trips. Question What supplies should I
bring to school? Answer It is a good idea to
have a backpack to start school. The district
provides many supplies and all
students will be given a
student planner.
21Question Will there only be one special per
marking period? Answer Yes. Your specials are
Music, Art, I-tech, Family and Consumer Sciences.
You have gym every other day all
year. Question How big are the lockers? Do I
need a lock for the locker? Answer The lockers
are large enough for your coat, backpack and
school supplies. Every student
needs a lock for the hall locker and one for the
gym locker. You may only use
locks that are purchased through the school
from your gym teacher.
22Question Do I need a binder? Answer You are
not required to have a binder but it can be
helpful in organizing
your classroom folders/materials. Question How
long is recess? Answer Lunch and recess lasts
for 30 minutes. When you are finished eating,
the recess supervisor will take you outside
for about 15 minutes. On days that
you dont have phys. ed. your teachers may
provide you with an extra
recess.

classes? Answer Depending on the class, it
will last between approximately
45 minutes and 1 hour and a half.
24 Question How do we know our class
order? Answer On the first day of school when
you report to homeroom, you will receive
your schedule. That schedule will tell
you the order that your classes
occur and when you are supposed to change
classes. Your teacher will help you with this
until you are comfortable. They also will walk
you to classes and lunch that are outside of
your regular area.
25Question Do you ever have to share a
locker? Answer No Question Do 5th graders
get to go to dances? Answer There are several
dances that 5th graders can attend.
26Question Who is my guidance Counselor Answer
Mrs. Justice is your guidance counselor. She
knows all about the middle school and
will be a big help if you need something.
She will be your guidance counselor
for the next four years. Question Is there
IPSD? Answer No.
27Question What should I do if someone is giving
me a hard time at school? Answer You should
tell your classroom teacher, your guidance
counselor and your parents right away so that
they can help you find a solution to the
conflict. If you tell someone
and the situation does not get better, make sure
you tell someone else and keep
telling people till you get the help you
need. Question Are there after-school
activities for 5th graders? Answer Some fifth
graders can participate in after-school tutoring.
