15Criteria for Selection All candidates should
show an awareness of the importance of research
and its integration within and relevance to
clinical practice. The applicant is required, as
a minimum, to mention some of their own research
experiences even if this is limited to
undergraduate work. Research experience is rated
highly (especially so when it is clinically
related). Evidence of research publications adds
to the strength of the application, as does
evidence of applying research findings in
practice. Candidates should be able to show an
awareness of the importance of a theoretical or
scientific basis to clinical practice, and how
theory and practice are linked.
16Examples of Research Scenarios While working as
a specialist with clients with Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder, you have noticed that many
of them overestimate the probability of negative
things happening generally in their lives.
Devise a study to investigate the possibility
that this is a vulnerability factor for
developing OCD.
While working as with Older adults as a care
assistant you noticed that many of them eat very
little or stop eating entirely. You notice that
many of the symptoms are very similar to
anorexia. Devise a study to investigate whether
this might be the case.
You have 20 minutes to design a study
