Title: Theater Etiquette
1Theater Etiquette
OR
The Ten Commandments of Good Theater Behavior
2With special guidance from William
Shakespeareor at least some semblance of him
3The Basic Rule of Theater Behavior
Theater behavior falls somewhere in between that
expected for a church and a movie theater. If
you wouldnt do it in one of the above, dont do
it here.
4Your cell phone should always be turned OFF.
Shakespeare Says Repeat after me Thou shalt
never enter that lovely place, thine theater,
with mine cell phone on.
5Never eat or drink unless refreshments are sold
in the theater.
6Do not sing along at an opera or musical.
Shakespeare Says Do thy singing in the shower,
and let others listen peacefully while at the
theater.
7Sit in your assigned seat. The usher will help
you if you need directions.
8Arrive on time. Some theaters will refuse to
seat you if you arrive late.
Shakespeare Says This will never do. You MUST
arrive on time!
9Pay attention during the production. Even if you
are not interested, sit quietly to avoid
disturbing others.
10You are welcome to leave your seat during
intermission. Otherwise, stay seated.
11Clap at the end of a scene, at the end of the
play, or after an especially wonderful moment in
a play (called a show-stopper). If you are
unsure of what to do, clap when others do.
12And always Enjoy thyself! Be inspired! Learn new
things!
13Thank you for tuning in to the Ten Commandments
of Good Theater Behavior
See you at the show!
